A Dwarf Fortress Ballad
As a student composer and producer, I write songs all the time. Often, they are inspired by my favourite things. Dwarf Fortress is no exception. Plump Helmet Man was a real joy to make, and it's been so much fun to collaborate with KitFox on this project!

I originally posted the first version of the song on Reddit on Valentines day 2024. For Valentines Day 2025 I released an updated and improved version along with a fun music video with some hand drawn images. With Kitfox's help, I'll be picking romantic stories from the community to feature in future content.

The Story
A mysterious Plump Helmet man appears one misty autumn afternoon, wandering into the bustling tavern of the fortress of "Wonderoushole".

For months he comes and goes, often staying for weeks at a time. No one quite knows what he's up to, but little did he know that he left a lasting impression...
The Inspiration
The in game events that inspired me to write this song took place in my very first fort. With an open tavern, all kinds of creatures visited... and the first time I ever saw Plump Helmet people, they were so cute I fell in love instantly.

One in particular hung out in the tavern for a LONG time. I really hoped he would join the fort, but sadly he did not. I imagined... what if the bar maid seeing him every day developed an obsession with him? In my head I could see this dramatic, stage show like song playing out at the end of her shift... and the song was born.
